As of iOS 16, when you try to connect fake AirPods to your device, your iPhone may display the “Your AirPods can be verified” notification. The support article states that uncertified AirPods can still connect to your iPhone, but may not work as expected.

Apple’s warning has a prominent “Do not connect” button, but if users wish, they can click the small “Connect via Bluetooth settings” link to proceed with the unconfirmed AirPods connection. Twitter user “Tommy Boi” shared a video of the warning in action after connecting fake AirPods to an iPhone a few days ago.
