NCP Fields Ravindra Singh Dogra for Sujanpur Assembly Bypoll in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, May 5, 2024: The National Congress Party (NCP) has announced its candidate for the upcoming Sujanpur Assembly bypoll in Himachal Pradesh. Ravindra Singh Dogra, the Himachal Pradesh unit president of NCP, will contest the election on the party’s election symbol, the “clock” .

The Sujanpur Assembly seat is one of the six seats that fell vacant after the disqualification of rebel Congress MLAs from the Himachal Pradesh Assembly. These MLAs, including sitting MLA Rajinder Rana, had voted in favor of the BJP’s Rajya Sabha nominee, Harsh Mahajan, on February 27. Subsequently, they were disqualified for defying a Congress whip during the cut motions and budget proceedings. The disqualified MLAs later joined the BJP and were fielded from their respective assembly seats for the bypolls .

Interestingly, Ranjit Singh, who contested the 2022 Assembly polls from the Sujanpur seat on a BJP ticket against Rana (then a Congress candidate), left the BJP after the party fielded the Congress rebel for the bypoll. Now, the old rivals will face off once again, as Singh has joined the Congress and received the party’s ticket for the bypoll .

The bypolls are scheduled for June 1, and the political landscape in Himachal Pradesh is heating up as parties vie for these crucial seats. The NCP’s decision to field Ravindra Singh Dogra adds further intrigue to the electoral contest in Sujanpur .

Stay tuned for more updates as the election date approaches!
